When should I be fitted for a breast form?
This is at your doctor's discretion. A prescription is needed from your doctor to be fitted.
What type of breast forms are available?
A non weighted breast form, usually made from dacron, nylon or similar materials. Various shaped silicone prosthesis.
Who should fit me for my prosthesis?
You should be fitted by a certified fitter who has received the educational training and instruction to insure the proper fit.
Is a mastectomy bra necessary with the prosthesis?
No. Most women feel more secure with a mastectomy bra because it has a pocket to accomodate the prosthesis. There are women who do not wear a mastectomy bra because they feel their regular bra is adequate.
How often will I need to replace my prosthesis?
Prosthesis carry a manufacturer's limited warranty from one or two years depending on the product. With the proper care, your prosthesis should provide years of comfort.
What do they cost?
Prices vary according to the prosthesis. Non-weighted breast forms are usually under $195.00. Prices are subject to change.
Are the prosthesis and mastectomy bra covered by insurance?
Both the prosthesis and bra covered under Medicare and most insurance companies.
